Across Wyandotte County, too many of our neighbors are struggling. Families are being priced out of the homes they have lived in for decades. People are sleeping outside because our community lacks the shelter beds and affordable housing they need. And seniors on fixed incomes are watching their property tax bills climb year after year, forced to choose between staying in the homes they have worked a lifetime to keep and paying for the medicine and groceries they need to live.

This doesn't have to be our reality.

When Nehemiah heard the cries of his people crushed by debt and injustice, he didn't look away. He called a great assembly. He named the problem publicly. He held the powerful accountable and demanded change. And change came.

Now it's our turn.

On Monday, April 27, hundreds of people of faith from congregations across Wyandotte County will gather at St. Patrick's Catholic Church for the 2026 Nehemiah Action. Together, we will stand before decision-makers and press for real solutions on the issues our community has named as most urgent: affordable housing, homelessness, and property tax relief for our seniors.

This year, members of our congregations have done the hard work of research. We have studied these problems, met with experts, learned from what has worked in other communities, and developed solutions we believe are workable and will benefit Wyandotte County on a systemic level. At the Nehemiah Action, we will present those solutions directly to our elected leaders within the Unified Government and ask them to act.

The prophet Amos reminds us of what God asks of us:

"But let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream." Amos 5:24

That is why we come together. Not as a handful of voices easy to ignore, but as a united body of believers whose faith compels us to act. When we stand together, we turn private suffering into public power. We turn prayer into action. We turn the cries of our neighbors into commitments from those who hold the authority to respond.

Nehemiah called a great assembly. Now, so do we.

Bring your congregation. Bring your family. Bring a friend who cares about justice in Wyandotte County. Doors open at 5:30 pm. The action begins at 6:00 pm sharp.
