Churches United for Justice is a nonprofit, grassroots, non-partisan, direct-action organization based in Wyandotte County. We organize people power and take strategic action to influence policy and hold public officials accountable.
-
While charity addresses immediate needs, justice focuses on the root causes of systemic issues. CUJ believes in organizing for structural change to make our community fair and livable for all.
-
CUJ organizes around issues identified by community members through listening sessions. These have included housing, elder care, homelessness, and community violence.
-
Each year, CUJ hosts listening sessions with hundreds of community members to surface pressing concerns. These are reviewed, and a team of leaders selects the issue that most directly impacts families across Wyandotte County.
-
Membership is open to congregations and faith communities that commit to participating in the justice ministry process. This includes forming a Justice Ministry Team and supporting CUJ’s actions.
-
Member congregations agree to:
- Identify a Justice Ministry Team
- Participate in listening, research, and action
- Invest financially
- Turn out members to CUJ’s events
-
Our largest annual event where thousands gather to present research findings and secure public commitments from decision-makers. It's a powerful expression of united people power.
-
Through financial sponsorships or partnerships. CUJ recognizes sponsors online and during events based on tiered investment levels.
-
100% of CUJ’s budget is funded locally through member congregations and individual and corporate investors. We do not rely on outside foundations.
