Justice vs Mercy
Both justice and mercy matter. Mercy ministry responds to immediate needs—providing meals, offering shelter, or covering a utility bill. These acts meet urgent concerns with compassion.
Justice ministry, however, seeks to change the systems that cause those needs in the first place. Justice challenges unfair policies, demands accountability, and organizes for lasting solutions.

Nehemiah 5 shows how people of faith confronted exploitation—not with charity alone, but by organizing a crowd to demand change. Justice requires large numbers of people taking public action. That’s why we work ecumenically—across denominations and traditions—to build power and ensure every neighbor in Wyandotte County is treated with dignity and fairness.
We must respond to urgent needs with mercy, but mercy alone is not enough. Justice asks why problems exist and addresses them at the root. We organize for justice because charity is not a substitute for fairness.
